National Steinbeck Center

Located only 1.5 miles from our hotel in scenic Old Town Salinas, this museum and cultural center captures the legacy of an American literary hero through interactive, multi-sensory exhibits for all ages. Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winning author John Steinbeck burst onto the scene with Grapes of Wrath, and visitors can view historic photos and books from the archives in the permanent exhibits. Each year the center hosts the annual Steinbeck Festival that draws people from across the globe.

Accessibility

The museum is designed and outfitted to be wheelchair accessible for guests with special needs. There is also a wheelchair located on the premises for use of visitors that might need it to help them get around the center.
 

Discounts & Offers

Students, teachers, seniors, armed forces members, and police and fire personnel always receive reduced rates of entry to the center. AAA members also save $1.00 on admission by showing their cards when they purchase a ticket.
 

FAQs

  • How do you access the archives and special collections?

    You must make an appointment in advance if you want to research in the archives. The first hour is free, but the center charges $5 per hour after that.

  • Is there a list of upcoming exhibitions?

    The website is updated with all of the latest information, but 2014 promises to be a big year as the Steinbeck Festival from April to August celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Grapes of Wrath.
